Pacific rim is an adult movie? I never known that.
What's on your mind?
One thing that seems to plague discussion of Kaiju size is the extremely common usage of "he didn't look that big to me" (or vice versa) as a way of justifying a proposed size for a Kaiju. People may get the impression that I'm almost obsessed with measuring things, so this is kind of an explanation piece for why that is the case.
I'm going to focus on how Mega-Kaiju and Slattern are more similar in size than the cinematography would lead one to believe, a topic I've argued about before, but now I want to cover it a little more thoroughly.
To do this, I'm going to rely on Source Film Maker, where I have a few models from the film.
I suppose the first step would be to demonstrate that the models are indeed in scale. Unfortunately, Jaeger-wise I only have Cherno Alpha and similarly scaled human models (the actual-size models for the Jaegers/Kaiju don't even fit in the map), however I'll use them to make my points as well as I can.
First of all: a comparison between Cherno and the human models.
Obviously Cherno is taller and bulkier, but you'll notice their shoulders are at pretty much the same height, so this human model should work as a "stand in Jaeger" when Cherno's bucket head becomes a bit inconvenient.
Next we'll determine Slattern's accuracy.
This will be the scene we compare to.
Unfortunately I couldn't get the camera angle quite right, but you'll notice a definite resemblance. And if you do want to actually measure the two shots I'll include a version with the human stand-in from earlier to make it a little easier.
I measured the torso (and head) of both the human stand-in and Striker coming from about Slattern's hip-spike to the base of his prominent back-spike, and both lined up with said measurement. Unfortunately the back-spike isn't quite visible in the film screenshot, but one can tell that it's overlapped by the top of Slattern's elbow. Even so, just to be sure, I compared the respective measured torso length's to the distance from the top front (top left from our view) of Slattern's hip to the base of his chest spike, and once again both matched up.
Now that we've established that Slattern is in scale, it's time to use cinematography to compare MK with Slattern.
Once again, the camera angle isn't quite perfect, but the similarities are striking. By simply shooting Slattern from a different angle, he looks like an absolute behemoth when compared to a Jaeger, even if it is a slightly slimmed-down Jaeger stand-in.
They are shutting down on September 30th..... we had a good run, right?
Here is a link to the context to this thread (including the previous mass estimates used for this thread) in case anyone wants that.
First of all, Jaegers in general are going to exceed 40,000 tonnes, some of the heavier ones (like Cherno Alpha) are probably over 50,000.
And based off of the model I created the Kaiju would have masses as follows:
Trespasser: 34,600 t
Onibaba: 22,350 t
Knifehead: 33,200 t
Mutavore: 32,000 t
Otachi: 33,000 t
Leatherback: 36,700 t
Scunner: 42,700 t
Raiju: 47,400 t
Slattern: 121,000 t
Hakuja: 19,700 t
Strikethorn: 31,300 t
Raijin: 46,000 t
Mega-Kaiju: 150,000 t*
I included the asterisk next to Mega-Kaiju because this one specifically I found a little on the low end (I figured his mass would approach 200,000 tonnes).
So I recently had a rewatch of the film, and a detail I hadn't noticed before was that Cherno Alpha was referred to as the "last of the T-90's." This seems like a potential reference to Russian tank designations (for example the real Russian tank named the T-90), and gives the impression that there was more than one Cherno Alpha at some points, and that all other members of that "class" of Jaeger had been destroyed when the movie took place. This may even imply that some or even many other Jaegers indeed had several "sister" counterparts
-From Mega-kaiju Stat Card, its height is 128.01m tall
-From Official size chart, its height is 500ft = 152.4m tall
I really didn't know what is its true height. Otherwise, from Official size chart, Mega-kaiju's width is 42 small squares, each small square is 10ft. That's mean Mega-kaiju's width is 42 x 10ft = 420ft = 128.01m, coincides with its height from Stat Card. I'm assuming 128.01m is its width, not height.
From Amara's nightmare in Pacific Rim: Amara. Anyone know its name?
A song inspired by the first Pacific Rim film. Hope you like it and I hope I've put this in the right section as I wasn't sure.
I found this picture in a book. May I know what are these cards for? Also, as this is the only active thread I have to post this here
Huo Da is mentioned in the uprising ascension as one of the few Kaiju that can fly. Also, it was killed in Shanghai at 2024 while the tattoo on Newton’s shoulder is described at 2025 as ‘ the Kaiju which attacked Shanghai a year ago’
Hi everyone, I am looking for Fanon wikis on pacific rim which is active. I found the Custom pacific rim wiki but there is no one. There is another pacific rim Fanon but it has been unused
I have drawn these monsters for a month and a week. These are all kaijus that have their designs appeared in movies and comics. Hope you guys like it!
Hi everyone, finally got around to uploading this. Had some trouble with it along the way, as a result of using a new video editor which had some bugs, but here it is. This video gives a brief overview of Striker's warfare capabilities, and covers its combat mission history. I hope you all enjoy, and I'd appreciate any thoughts and feedback. Thank you.
Is there someone who can draw very well? Many pages, such as Atticon, Ceramander, Taranais, Rachnid, Hound, Isurrector, Tailspitter, Tengu, Tentalus, Vodyanoi, Hidoi, Clawhook, Fiend and Raythe does not have pictures. If you are really good at drawing can you please help to draw these kaijus? Also note the design must be as close to the novel as possible, so DON'T draw a lizard with 6 legs and a spiky tail and expect me to think this as a random kaiju. I will be monitoring these pages and I shall choose the best image. Unselected ones will go into another gallery.
I personally feel Otachi is the strongest. She can spit acid, has a tail which can move on its own, can fly, killed 1 and a half Jaegers, Almost killed Jypsy and has a young which almost killed another person.
I was curious about the Wei Tang Brothers ' seemingly dual-component surname, and looked into the trivia section to see if there's any mention of official clarification on the subject. Turns out there was, but following the cited link , I discovered that there's a huge misunderstanding, as the statement says that "Wei" the full surname while "Tang" is just a shared component of the brothers' respective given names (which is common in naming of real-life Chinese siblings), yet the relevant trivia entry says that "Tang" is a component to the family name "Wei", and the lead section of the article mirrors that.
I'll be correcting this error right after posting this; I'm just posting this to provide a clear explanation for this relatively non-trivial edit.
The breach dates we have on the pages of the Kaiju named in the title are incorrect. They reference combat dossiers seen in the novelisation, but these dates contradict the movie and even the novelisation itself. Furthermore, Mutavore's breach date is also incorrectly referened in Striker's combat dossier, so there are not the only Kaiju to have incorrect breach dates in the novelisation. The correct breach dates would be 03/01/2025 for Leatherback and Otachi, and 04/01/2025 for Raiju, Scunner and Slattern (in dd/mm/yyyy format). Allow me to explain why.
We know Mutavore breached on 1st Jan 2025. Raleigh arrived at the HK Shatterdome the following day, 2nd Jan. The day after that, 3rd Jan, he trained in the Kwoon and tested Gipsy with Mako. Later that evening (3rd Jan), the double event happened. Early the following morning (4th Jan), the triple event happens. This lines up with both the novelisations series of event, and the film's timeline. The current dates we have at 8th Jan for the double event, and 12th Jan for the triple. There's clearly too much spacing between these days, and we can clearly see that the dates are as seen in my explanation. Furthermore, Dr. Gottlieb says Mutavore came a week after the last Kaiju, meaning the double event must have been sooner than seven days as the dossier suggests. He also says that on the 6th Jan, Kaiju could be breaching every eight hours (then eventually every four minutes etc...), which adds up. The Breach was destroyed on the 4th, so it never got to that point, but if the triple event really occurred on the 12th (which as explained, already makes no sense) then it would have been showering Kaiju.
I plan on correcting these dates soon, but have made this post to see if anyone has any evidence disproving what I've said before I do so.
Thank you for reading.
I felt like starting a thread for minor details that you find mildly interesting.
I'll start us off.
So, an important part of PR's plot is that Knifehead is the first Kaiju that shows higher level thought when battling Gipsy. An interesting detail I noticed was that Knifehead is the first Kaiju in the film to be shown with pupils in its eyes (which would be associated with it having higher level thought).
Late March last year, I added some information to the PR Wiki pertaining to an event seen in the Pacific Rim Uprising: Ascension novelisation, which led to the creation of the "Reckoner (Uprising)" page. I've just released a video highlighting this event in more detail. This event stood out to me because not only do we get to read about Horizon Brave in action, but we also get a lot more context to the Kowloon boneslum seen in Hong Kong. We experience Horizon Brave's fight against Reckoner through the eyes of Ranger Cadets Ou-Yang Jinhai and Viktoriya Malikova, as they train in a Mock-Pod simulation for their first time.
I hope you enjoy the video. Please leave feedback and suggestions on how this video could be produced better (if you believe it's flawed), and what you'd like to see in the future. Also, please consider checking out my other two PR-related videos. Many thanks.
Both are incredibly powerful
