Aki Seto is the name of an scrapped character from the Pacific Rim draft script.[1]
Development[]
Overview[]
Aki Seto is the name of an omitted Jaeger pilot featured in the draft script of Pacific Rim. The character was written as a gay man, who harbored an unrequited crush on fellow pilot Duc Jessop, by way of explaining his lack of romantic relationship with Mako Mori.[1] Following the release of Pacific Rim, writer Travis Beacham alluded that there was a LGBT character in the universe of Pacific Rim. But would not name the character when asked.[2]
Role[]
In the original story for Pacific Rim, Aki Seto was the co-pilot of Mako Mori. Together, the two piloted the Jaeger Acid Geisha, and defended Japan from the Kaiju. Aki is killed prior to the beginning of the script’s story, sacrificing his life to save Mako from certain death when their Jaeger is overpowered by the Kaiju they fought in Shinagawa, Japan. Mako spends a majority of the script coping with the loss of Aki.[1]
