Gipsy Avenger's original Chain Sword 2.0 (left arm).
The Chain Sword 2.0 is an additional weapon used by the Mark-6 Jaeger, Gipsy Avenger.
Mechanics[]
Modeled after Gipsy Danger's GD6 Chain Sword, designed by Mako Mori, the Chain Sword 2.0 appears to function like the original. When armed, the Chain Sword is imbued with blue plasma. Chain Sword 2.0 can also block beam-based attacks.[1]
History[]
During the battle between Gipsy Avenger and Obsidian Fury in Sydney, Australia, Gipsy Avenger deploys its Chain Sword, but the other Jaeger retaliates with its Plasma Chainsaws.[1]
During the subsequent battle between the two Jaegers in Severnaya Zemlya, Siberia, Jake Pentecost and Nate Lambert use the sword to hold back a plasma blast from Obsidian Fury. As the battle continues, Gipsy Avenger's ducks a strike from Obsidian Fury and slashes the other Jaeger across the chest with the sword, damaging Obsidian Fury and exposing the power core.
Obsidian Fury deflects a subsequent strike aimed at its power core and breaks off the sword which gets stuck in the enemy Jaeger's leg. The Rangers yank the sword out of Obsidian Fury's leg and stab it through Jaeger's neck before ripping out its power core.[1]
As part of Gipsy Avenger's upgrades before the battle in MegaTokyo, the chain sword is replaced with Obsidian Fury's plasma chainsaws.[1]
Trivia[]
- In Pacific Rim, Gipsy Danger is outfitted with a left and right Chain Sword by Mako Mori. In an interview with Yahoo.com, John Boyega states that Gipsy Avenger was given two Chain Swords after he assumed Gipsy Danger only had one.[2][note 1]
Notes[]
- ↑ John Boyega: "“[...]The plasma sword is big; when you swing that, it’s not just your strength coming out, it’s also the robot’s. And if you’ve seen the trailer, you’ll notice we’ve got two of those babies. When I saw the first film, I was like, ‘Why don’t they put in another one?'” Behold the power that comes with being a producer."
