Acidquill is a breed of Category III Kaiju.
Biology[]
Acidquill is a bipedal Kaiju with seven limbs: two arms, two legs, two tendrils and a tail. The Kaiju's arms are significantly larger and stronger than its legs, and it primarily uses them to support itself, striding on its knuckles. Its legs are still used in combat, but normally hang idle. Acidquill has two tendrils extending from its back which can pierce the armor of a Jaeger. Its tail is also used in combat and for balance.
History[]
Operation Blackout[]
During the evacuation of Australia, an Acidquill emerges from a breach in Meridian City, within the vicinity of three V-50 Jumphawk carriers of the evacuees. Thunder Kinetic engages the Kaiju to clear a path for the carriers. When the Acidquill snatches a Jumphawk, Thunder Kinetic launches a missile toward the Kaiju as it lets go of the Jumphawk. The significantly damaged Acidquill lunges at Thunder Kinetic and release spurts of Kaiju Blue from its mouth to dissolve the Jaeger and killing the pilots inside.[4]
More Acidquill emerging from the breaches join the Kaiju attacking the city. These Acidquill fought Jaegers Marauder and Hunter Vertigo.[1] The Acidquill that destroyed Thunder Kinetic locates the survivors of the Jumphawk that went down to a PPDC building, guarded by Striker Berserker. During Striker Berserker's defense of the Jumphawk, Acidquill kills Cooper, leaving Herc to fight on his own. Following a grueling fight, Striker Berserker impales Acidquill through the chin, and its dead weight topples the Jaeger.[1][2][4]
Following Herc's execution of Operation Blackout, another Acidquill ambushes Hunter Vertigo during its attempts to transport civilians to safety. It's shot down by Marauder. Immediately after this, another Acidquill arbutuses Marauder, stabbing it from behind. The Jaeger fires on the Kaiju until it leaps onto its shoulders and attacks its Conn-Pod, which triggers an explosion that kills both pilots.
During Hunter Vertigo's journey to Shadow Basin, another Acidquill pursued and attacked the Jaeger and Meridian City's refugees. It is able to damage one of Hunter Vertigo's Cryo Cannons, before the Jaeger uses the nuclear missile the Kaiju deflected earlier to kill it.[1]
The Boneyard[]
During the opening of a Breach in the boneyard located between Meridian and Clayton, another Acidquill emerges, narrowly missing the Kaiju Boy standing near the portal.
Acidquill bests the disadvantaged Atlas Destroyer during their fight, evading its single arm attacks with ease. Leaping onto the Jaeger, it intends to pierce the Jaeger's armor with its claws, but is pulled off by the Kaiju-Jaeger Hybrid, Apex. Apex grabs Acidquill from behind by the tail and smashes it into a rock. Smashing it into the ground, Apex leaps on Acidquill, and stabs the Kaiju in the head.[3]
Kaiju Valley[]
Another Acidquil ambushes Atlas Destroyer in a valley full of Kaiju. After a brief skirmish, Taylor manages to kill it by impaling the Kaiju with one of its own quills.[5]
Known Inconsistencies[]
- In Pacific Rim: The Black, Acidquill is designated a Category III Kaiju. However, in the prequel comic, Pacific Rim: Blackout Acidquill is a Category IV Kaiju.
Trivia[]
- Acidquill, and the remains of Leatherback, Mutavore, and Slattern in the Boneyard, reinforces Newton Geiszler's assertion that the Kaiju are clones.[note 1]
