Gipsy Danger is a Mark-3 American Jaeger. It was one of the oldest Jaegers in active combat until its destruction in 2025.
Pacific Rim Novelization[]
Early Combat History[]
Gipsy Danger's first mission is in Los Angeles on October 17, 2017 alongside another Jaeger against the Category III Kaiju Yamarashi. When their partner's missile barrage bounces off Yamarashi's hide, Gipsy Danger takes over the fight and forces the Kaiju to move back through the port of Long Beach towards Harbor Freeway. As the battle continues, Gipsy Danger eventually gains the upper head and uses a cargo crane wire to behead Yamarashi, earning the Jaeger its first solo kill.[1][2] The immense amount of Kaiju Blue from Yamarashi's decapitated corpse nearly dissolves Gipsy Danger's Conn-Pod before its pilots are able to rinse the Jaeger off in the bay.
The following year, Gipsy Danger is deployed in Puerto San Jose on May 20, 2018, to combat a Kaiju that makes landfall there. On July 22, 2019, Gipsy fights and kills the Kaiju Clawhook in San Diego.[1][2] December 16, 2019, Gipsy Danger is deployed in Manila alongside Striker Eureka and Horizon Brave to defend the city from a Category IV Kaiju with a barbed tail. When Horizon Brave is overpowered by the Kaiju, Gipsy Danger and Striker Eureka are able to save the Mark-1 Jaeger, with Gipsy Danger killing the Kaiju soon after.[3][1]
Piloted by the Becket brothers Yancy and Raleigh, Gipsy Danger is accredited with four Kaiju kills over the span of four years.[1]
Knifehead Attack[]
February 2, 2020, the Category III Kaiju Knifehead emerges from the Breach. When it evades Romeo Blue, Gipsy Danger is deployed to prevent the Kaiju from reaching the shores of Anchorage, Alaska. Disobeying Marshal Stacker Pentecost's orders, the Becket brothers save a civilian vessel from certain destruction during their engagement with Knifehead. The brothers underestimate Knifehead and are blindsided by the Kaiju when it tricks them by playing dead. Although they do their best to fight back, Knifehead severs Gipsy Danger's left arm from its body and tears open the Jaeger's Conn-Pod, killing Yancy in the process. Raleigh is able to kill Knifehead with Gipsy Danger's plasma cannon and pilot the critically damaged Jaeger to shore on his own.
Decommission and Restoration[]
Following its pyrrhic victory against Knifehead and Raleigh's subsequent departure from the Jaeger Program, Gipsy Danger is presumably returned to the Anchorage Shatterdome. The following year, it is transported to Oblivion Bay, a Jaeger graveyard in Oakland, California.[4][3]
In 2023, Gipsy Danger is removed from Oblivion Bay to undergo repairs as sanctioned by the Pan Pacific Defense Corps. As part of the Mark III Restoration Program supervised by Mako Mori and Tendo Choi, Gipsy Danger undergoes major reconstruction and refurbishment. The Jaeger's systems are also upgraded to the standards of modern PPDC technology.[1][2]
Following the closure of the Anchorage Shatterdome in 2024, Gipsy Danger is relocated to the Hong Kong Shatterdome alongside Cherno Alpha and Striker Eureka. Raleigh is later recruited by Pentecost to return as one of Gipsy Danger's pilots for one last mission to destroy the Breach.[2]
Features[]
Gipsy Danger possesses a gauntlet-fixed S-11 Pulse Launcher, which fires an orb of pure dark matter at its target. Successful strikes tend to disrupt the molecular structure of Kaiju biology.[5][1]
