Idris Elba is an English television, theatre, and film actor. He is best known for the portrayal of Stringer Bell, a Baltimore drug lord and aspiring businessman, in HBO's critically acclaimed show The Wire. He portrays Stacker Pentecost in Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim.
Biography[]
Elba has worked in a variety of television series including Family Affairs, Ultraviolet, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, and Luther, the latter of which was executive produced by him. Elba is also a DJ under the moniker DJ Big Driis (or Big Driis the Londoner), and a hip-hop soul recording artist.
Elba starred in Ridley Scott's Prometheus, which premiered on June 8th, 2012. Elba has since appeared in other blockbuster films and dramas such as The Dark Tower, Mandelia: Long Walk to Freedom, Disney's The Jungle Book, The Mountain Between Us, and Molly's Game. Additionally, Elba has reprised the role of John Luther for additional seasons following the end of the series third season.
