Taylor: "All this time, I thought it was our own people behind this."
Mei: "A home-brewed Kaiju? Don't think so."
Taylor: "That means the Precursors can make Kaiju that look like us."
—Taylor and Mei[1]

Kaiju bOy,[note 1] also known as Boy for short, is a Category II human-like Kaiju who appears as a main character in Pacific Rim: The Black. Created by the Precursors, he was discovered in the basement of a recruitment center for the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, and was taken in by Taylor and Hayley Travis.[2] Forming a bond with the siblings, he accompanied them on their journey to find their parents while also aiding them in defeating any Kaiju they came across.

Appearance[]

In his human form, Kaiju boy resembles a child with pale skin and white hair. Initially, both of his eyes were blue, and would flare into fiery red when provoked. After his first Kaiju transformation and return to human form, a grey, scar-like mark encircles his right eye, accompanied by heterochromia: his left eye blue, the right glowing red. Both of these changes were permanent. In his first appearance, he wore nothing except for a pair of dark blue shorts with the Pan Pacific Defense Corps's logo on it. After arriving in Bogan, he wore a black jacket with white stripes and a red hood, which was eventually discarded after his first transformation into a Kaiju. In the end of the final episode of Pacific Rim: The Black, he wears a blue jacket with a white hood instead.

In his Kaiju form, Boy takes on a monstrous and humanoid appearance, sporting red eyes with black sclera, along with grey, craggy skin embellished with cyan, bioluminescent markings. He boasts horns atop his head, claws on both his hands and three-toed feet, and spikes adorning his arms and shoulders. Within his mouth, a blue glow highlights his sharp teeth.

History[]

Pacific Rim: The Black[]

Trapped in Meridian City[]

During the Uprising Wars, the Human-Kaiju Hybrid is found by the PPDC wandering the desert and is placed inside of a tank within the PPDC Recruitment Center. Studying him, the PPDC learns that he is a Kaiju weapon shortly before Meridian City falls.[3] During a Rogue Kaiju-Jaeger Hybrid's rampage through Meridian City, it picks up on his presence and attempts to establish a Drift with him.[4]

Later, at an undetermined time, when the hybrid regains consciousness inside the tank, he sees Hayley outside and mimics her movement. He watches Hayley try and fail to break the tank using a crowbar. Using his own strength, he breaks the tank and promptly loses consciousness. Hayley and Taylor are able to escape from the recruitment center with the hybrid and the power cell from his tank. Unbeknownst to the boy, he and the Travis siblings are pursued by the canine Kaiju roaming the city, and are saved by the other hybrid.[2]

Clayton City[]

After his first meeting with Apex, Boy continues to follow the Travis siblings to the Clayton City after they found a mayday signal coming from the City. Unknowingly, Mei is also staying at the town, offering them hot chocolate and continuing their journey to find the signal. They eventually come across an abandoned Hunter Vertigo, and he follows them inside the Conn-Pod.

They later have to escape from the Category IV Kaiju, Copperhead, who followed them. After a car was thrown in their direction, by Copperhead, Hayley passes out, leaving Taylor to make a decision to lure Copperhead away.

Boy becomes angry now seeing his friend Hayley lying unconscious, and Taylor risking his life to save them. He suddenly roars and his mouth glows blue, creating an energy orb surrounding himself and Hayley. He transforms into a Kaiju, and attacks Copperhead. He punches Copperhead in the face and manages to get onto the Kaiju's back. Clinging onto Copperhead's scaly back protrusions, Boy rides the Kaiju like a bull. Unfortunately, he is flung off, and Copperhead gains the upper hand flinging him into a pile of debris, Boy gets stuck under the debris and growls in frustration. Hayley who has regain her consciousness approaches him and attempts to soothe him. However, Copperhead comes from behind them and attempts to crush them but is intervened by Atlas Destroyer who is being piloted by Mei and Taylor. Hayley realizes she can help as well and flees from Boy to go dislodge the nuke from an inactive Hunter Vertigo.

After defeating Copperhead, Hayley, Taylor, and Mei come back to the Kaiju transformed Boy. They discuss how he was created and decide he was made by the Precursors to appear as a human.

Abilities[]

Transformation[]

Kaiju bOy has the ability to switch between a human-looking form and a much larger and monstrous Kaiju form.

Physical capabilities[]

Even in his human form, Kaiju bOy has immense physical strength, as he was able to block a direct punch from Apex. Likewise, he could also pierce a Ripper and the High Priestess' bodies with his hands. His strength is especially potent in his Kaiju transformation, as he was able to push back Copperhead, knock down both Atlas Destroyer and Apex, restrain a Kaiju Eel and crush its spine easily, and hold back a missile targeted at him. bOy's legs are also powerful, as he is capable of jumping at great heights, and could dent Apex's face plating by repeatedly stomping on it, when he was mind controlled by the Sisters of the Kaiju. bOy is quick and agile, as he could outmaneuver Rippers as well as both Atlas Destroyer and Apex with his speed and leaping abilities.

Durability[]

While in his human form, bOy displayed notable durability, shrugging off a gunshot to the head without visible harm, though the impact did propel him backward. Upon assuming his Kaiju transformation, he endured a series of assaults, including strikes from Copperhead, the collapse of buildings upon him, being flung by Apex, and the detonation of a missile. Despite his resilience, the force of the explosion rendered him unconscious, prompting a return to his human state.

Weaknesses[]

While bOy is capable of taking on threats bigger than himself, their size can also prove detrimental to him. When he fought Copperhead, the larger Kaiju was able to shake him off and knock him away into multiple nearby buildings, leaving him stranded in rubble. During his confrontation with Apex, bOy found himself ensnared mid-leap by the Kaiju-Jaeger hybrid, rendering him momentarily defenseless in the heat of battle. Taylor also noted that Breacher was too big for both bOy and Atlas Destroyer to hand in battle. Similar to fellow Kaiju, bOy is susceptible to Kaiju Ticks, as one left him severely weakened and marked by a prominent scar on his chest following his encounter with the Sisters of the Kaiju.
