Kaz Takada is the name of a scrapped character from the Pacific Rim draft script.[1]

Development[]

Overview[]

Kaz Takada is a supporting character in the original script for Pacific Rim. In his introduction, he is described "a broad shouldered Japanese man" wearing "a crisp uniform" at the age of fifty years. In addition, he is the "Supreme Commander" of the Tokyo Shatterdome's Strike Group.[1]

Kaz is one of two military characters that were removed in favor of maintaining the Stacker Pentecost character as the central military leader and figure in the rewrites of the screenplay.[1]

Role[]

Kaz is the commanding officer within the Tokyo Shatterdome in Japan, and the man Stacker Pentecost defers to during emergency situations and stratagem. Takada communicates with the representatives of the Pacific Rim, relaying the status of the war against the Kaiju to them at different intervals of the story.

When Raleigh Antrobus and Mako Mori refuse to cooperate with each other, Takada orders Pentecost to force them to work together in light of the lack of candidates prepared to pilot a Jaeger. Takada is against using any methods invented or suggested by Ivo Czerny until two Kaiju, a Category IV and Category V, attack and the Kaiju continue to come in pairs.[1]

When Newt Gotlieb and Felicity Kincaid present their information on the Interstice's vulnerability, he orders the Jaegers to mobilize against the oncoming Kaiju attacks when the Mark-1 Jaeger Gipsy Danger is sent down to destroy the portal.[1]
