Matador Fury is a Mark-3 Mexican Jaeger. It is piloted by two ex-convicts who work with the Pan Pacific Defense Corps.[6] The stipulation behind their cooperation was if they piloted the Jaeger "one more time" they could earn their freedom.[6]

History

Panama City Incident

In the latter half of 2020, Matador Fury is deployed to Panama City alongside Romeo Blue and Puma Real to face the Kaiju Insidia and fail to prevent it from making landfall.[7][8]

During the fight, the city is devastated and the two Jaegers are unable to save Romeo Blue, who has its left arm torn off and its Conn-Pod shattered, killing the pilots. After the loss of their ally, Matador Fury and Puma Real manage to kill the Kaiju.[7][8]

Hawaii Incident

On October 9, 2021, Matador Fury is deployed alongside Coyote Tango and Striker Eureka to Hawaii to face the Kaiju Ceramander.[9][10]

During the fight, the three Jaegers realize that their weapons are not having much effect on the Kaiju, and decided to work together as a team in order to throw the Kaiju into a volcano's caldera, burning the monster to death.[10]

Later Career

Sometime during the Kaiju War, Matador Fury is destroyed and taken to Oblivion Bay.[4]

Features

Like all Mark-3 Jaegers, Matador Fury is powered by a nuclear reactor, which makes it resilient to EMP-based attacks.[11]

Trivia

  • According to Travis Beacham, Matador Fury's pilots aren't criminals despite their status as convicts.[12]
  • According to Travis Beacham, both pilots are male.[13]
  • When questioned on the whereabouts of Mexico's Jaeger on Twitter, writer Travis Beacham replied, "They all have names. Mexico's is Matador Fury" and that the film's "bible" was "very big".[1]
  • Guillermo del Toro's intention was to include Matador Fury in the movie, but states that the inclusion of both the characters and the Jaeger itself "was just too many backstories" [6].
  • The role-playing game called Pacific Rim: A Cinematic Adventure includes an adventure idea called "Furious Rescue", a what-if scenario in which Matador Fury was the Jaeger destroyed by Insidia. In this mission, players must play as the Mark-3 pilots, rescue workers, or civilians as they attempt to escape the city without being caught by the Kaiju.[8]
