- "We're losing Jaegers faster than we can build them."
- —L. Taylor[1]
Oblivion Bay is a Pan Pacific Defense Corps-officiated graveyard designed for the disposal of Jaegers.
History[]
Some time during the Kaiju War, the PPDC officiated a location for the disposal of damaged or destroyed Jaegers and named it "Oblivion Bay".
The first recorded destruction of a Jaeger was in 2019[2] and following the pyrrhic victory of Gipsy Danger in 2020 against Knifehead[1], Jaegers began to fall in battle against the Kaiju in record numbers as the number of Kaiju attacks began to increase.[3]
The increasing destruction of the Jaegers complicated the PPDC's ability to maintain surviving Jaegers and remain combat ready as production for Jaegers ceased in 2019 with the completion of Striker Eureka. Horizon Brave, Romeo Blue, and Tacit Ronin were among the Mark-1 Jaegers that were destroyed in battle and relocated to Oblivion Bay. By 2025, Oblivion Bay was littered with the remains of destroyed Jaegers.[1]
After suffering critical damage in its battle against Knifehead in 2020, Gipsy Danger was sent to Oblivion Bay. In 2023, it was removed from Oblivion Bay and returned to the Anchorage Shatterdome to undergo repairs [4] as part of Marshal Stacker Pentecost's plan to attack the Breach.[1]
Trivia[]
- According to the Pacific Rim: The Official Movie Novelization, Oblivion Bay was established in the location of Trespasser's death.
- The name "Oblivion Bay" was first used in the novelization. The location is never named in Pacific Rim.
Known Inconsistencies[]
- In Pacific Rim, when L. Taylor is listing the number of fallen cities, Oblivion Bay appears on screen as he says "Vladivostok", suggesting that the graveyard is in Russia. However, the novelization states Oblivion Bay was established between Oakland, and the San Francisco Bay Area. In Pacific Rim: Aftermath, Joshua Griffin states Oblivion Bay is located in Los Angeles.
