Novelization

"It’s called Oblivion Bay, and it’s where combat damaged Jaegers are permanently retired. Graveyard of our robot warriors, if you’ll pardon the expression."
—Unknown[1]

Oblivion Bay[3] is a graveyard for Jaegers fallen in battle.

History[]

Creation[]

Following the end of triple tactical nuclear strike that killed the creature later identified as "Kaiju" in 2013, large swaths of Oakland, California and the San Francisco Bay Area were rendered uninhabitable.[3]

As nuclear strike zones where Kaiju were killed were later recognized as Exclusion Zones, plans were made for the strike zone where Trespasser was killed to became a dumping ground for Jaegers in 2021.[1] A year after Gipsy Danger killed Knifehead in February 2020[4], the Pan Pacific Defense Corps named the area "Oblivion Bay'.

The Jaegers that were considered unsalvageable following their battles were relocated to Oblivion Bay where they would be isolated from the public. Excluding Cherno Alpha, Oblivion Bay held a majority of the Mark-1 through Mark-3 Jaegers that were destroyed in combat.

Four years after Gipsy Danger was sent to Oblivion Bay, it was salvaged and returned to Anchorage for extensive upgrades and repairs under the Mark III Restoration Project. The intervention of Marshal Stacker Pentecost and Mako Mori ensured Gipsy Danger was able to return to duty to protect Hong Kong, and take part in Operation Pitfall.
