Oolong is the name of an unused Kaiju concept from the Pacific Rim draft script.[1]

Biology[]

Oolong is Crustacean-like Kaiju. Like Dengue, Oolong bears the resemblance of a Dragon with a black exoskeleton that acts as its armor. Oolong uses a giant pincer to attack its targets and its body language is reminiscent of a Gorilla.[1]

Development[]

Oolong is a simulated Kaiju, designed with the intention of testing Gipsy Danger's pilots, Raleigh Antrobus and Mako Mori. In the script, Oolong attacks the city of Pudong, Shanghai and is confronted by Gipsy Danger.

The Kaiju is hit with the Jaeger's chest-mounted "Electrolaser", but the weapon only slows the creature down. Gipsy Danger engages in close quarters combat, which allows Oolong to smash the Jaeger through the towers in the city.

Eventually, Gipsy Danger gains the upper hand. It breaks the joint of its claw and tears it from its body, using the broken half to stab it in the eye. When it begins to thrash, Gipsy Danger grabs it by the throat and snaps its neck. The blow "kills" the Kaiju, ending the simulated run.

Trivia[]

  • "Oolong" is a traditional Chinese tea produced through a process including withering the plant under strong sun and oxidation before curling and twisting.
