"The PPDC scrapyard. Where old Jaegers came to die."
—Joshua Griffin[1]

The Pan Pacific Defense Corps Scrapyard (or PPDC Scrapyard[1]) is the privately owned recycle center of Pan Pacific Defense Corps.

History[]

Established in Santa Monica, California, the PPDC scrapyard was used to dispose of the remains of Jaegers destroyed during combat with a Kaiju.[1]

In the interest in public relations or electioneering, the PPDC and politicians made a distinction between which Jaegers were considered important, and which were regarded as superfluous. As a result, not all Jaegers were sent to Oblivion Bay in the LA Wastes, but instead sent to the scrapyard in Santa Monica.[note 1]

Mark-3 Jaeger, Vulcan Spectre, and Mark-1 Jaeger, Romeo Blue[2], were among the Jaegers disposed in Santa Monica. Jaegers such as Matador Fury, Tacit Ronin, and Crimson Typhoon were sent to Oblivion Bay.[note 2]

Pacific Rim: Aftermath[]

Looking to secure a Synaptic Capacitor, the Mech Czar sends former Jaeger pilot Joshua Griffin and a group of her henchmen (Hawk, Pena, Dwayne, and Verma), to break into the scrapyard. Using a custom Energycaster created by Chris Dubango, the team burn a makeshift door into the scrapyard's concrete wall. Once inside, Joshua warns the group of drones that patrol the scrapyard.[1]

During their approach to Vulcan Specter, Joshua and his group is ambushed by Giovanni Capello's men, who were sent to procure Jaeger parts for Giovanni. Dwayne and Verma are shot and killed during the skirmish. Pena, Hawker, and Joshua are able to survive thanks to an explosion that dislodged Vulcan Specter's head and sent it rolling down debris that kills Giovanni's men. Joshua secures the capacitor and they return to Mech Czar's Headquarters.[1]

Pacific Rim Uprising[]

In an effort to repay his debt to Sonny, Jake Pentecost breaks into the scrapyard to steal plasma capacitors from the Conn-Pod of Romeo Blue. He was unaware of Amara Namani, who entered the the Conn-Pod minutes before he and Sonny, and removed the plasma capacitor from Romeo Blue.[3]

Without the capacitor, Jake is forced to flee to escape certain death. He uses his knowledge of the Mark-1's interior to lead Sonny and his men over a maintenance hatch where he drops and traps them inside. Exiting the Jaeger's head, Jake leaves the scrapyard and follows Amara to her "command center". [3]

Notes[]

  1. Joshua: "Politicians come from all over the world to walk solemnly between the rusted hulks. Remembering those who gave their lives in the line of duty. The rest of the crap ends up here. On the heap."
  2. Joshua: "There's Oblivion Bay of course, up in the LA Wastes. That's where they keep the important wrecks. Matador Fury. Tacit Ronin. Crimson Typhoon."
