History[]
2014 Academy Awards[]
Early December 2013, during the announcement of the 86th Academy Awards, Pacific Rim was among the ten films shortlisted for the Best Visual Effects award.[1][2][3] Other films included were Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity, Walt Disney's The Lone Ranger, and Marvel Studios's Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 3.[2][1][3]
Mid January the Academy officially announced its nominees for the Award for Best Visual Effects, Pacific Rim was not among the final nominations of the award.[4] Entertainment websites reporting on the matter referred to the omission of Pacific Rim as a "mistake", or "Oscar Snub"[5][6], Entertainment Weekly going as far to say it was "oversight" when considering other films, such as The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Star Trek: Into Darkness, were nominated.[7]
