The former front page of the official website during the theatrical run of Pacific Rim: Uprising.

pacificrimmovie.com is the official website domain for Legendary Pictures' Pacific Rim series. The website originally launched in 2013 in conjunction with the viral marketing website, panpacificdefense.com[1], and was used to promote the 2013 film Pacific Rim, directed by Guillermo del Toro. In 2017, the website was revamped for the 2018 film Pacific Rim: Uprising, directed by Steven S. DeKnight.

History

Pacific Rim

According to the official Project C profile, pacificrimmovie.com was designed to reflect the visual aesthetic of del Toro's film. The website was designed using HTML 5 and largely minimalist, using large background panorama images taken from the international banner poster and the Australian banner poster with minor animated elements.[2]

pacificrimmovie.com was designed as a scroll-through website. Users were guided through nineteen links in a dropdown box, and each link is announced by the voice of the Gipsy Danger A.I. (Ellen McLain).[2]

Pacific Rim: Uprising

pacificrimmovie.com was revamped and relaunched in 2017 for the film Pacific Rim: Uprising.[3] Originally, the website's front page used a temporary background featuring the logo for Uprising, and redirected users to gojaeger.com, a viral marketing website promoting the sequel's Jaegers and the film's timeline.[3] Following the approach of the film's release, the official website was later updated with links to the official trailers, a fitness contest[4], and the jaegeracademy redirect website for gojaeger.com.

Redirect URL

Shortly after the film's home video release on June 19, 2018, pacificrimmovie.com was changed to a redirect url for the Universal Pictures domain uphe.com, a website promoting the purchase of the home video release.[5]

Trivia
