PPDC Ration Poster

A rationing poster by the Pan Pacific Defense Corps.

Rationing is the controlled distribution of scarce resources, goods, or services, or an artificial restriction of demand. Rationing controls the size of the ration, which is one's allowed portion of the resources being distributed on a particular day or at a particular time.

History[]

When the economy of the Pacific Rim began to collapse in the face of the continued Kaiju attacks[1], organizations like the Pan Pacific Defense Corps advocated rationing to the general public of the Pacific Rim as a way to support their continued existence.[note 1]

Near the end of the Kaiju War, rationing appeared to become a dominant means of maintaining resources in a landscape shaken by multiple losses since the 2020 attack by the Category III Kaiju, Knifehead.[1]

With no confidence in the Pan Pacific Defense Corps' continued success in the face of multiple Jaegers fallen in battle, the United Nations that established the organization began to pull its funding away from the organization toward a final ditch effort, the Anti-Kaiju Wall. Financial failure of the Jaeger Program established work environments supporting by the Pan Pacific Defense Project supported by the rationing system.[1]

Working for Rations[]

In some areas, rations were given out based on the risk of the workplace. According to section 243-B of the Pan Pacific Perimeter Project, rations were given out as "Danger Compensation" based on the severity of the worker’s place on the Anti-Kaiju Wall.[1]

As the most dangerous part of the wall, 300 worth in rations were given to workers who would work the top of the fall. Because death by falling was frequent, workers were reluctant to work the top of the wall. Compensation of working the middle of the wall was only worth 150 in rations, and the bottom, less so with 75 worth in rations.[1]
