Pacific Rim

Slattern is a Category V Kaiju and the strongest Kaiju ever encountered by humanity. During the events of January 12, 2025, it was sent through the Breach to protect the portal from destruction.[3]

Biology

The largest and strongest of the Kaiju, Slattern is unrivaled by any of its brethren in battle. The creature's high toxicity levels and intelligence makes it the most lethal Kaiju the Pan Pacific Defense Corps has ever faced.

Slattern has thick, leathery skin and three triple-crowned tails that can be used for long-distance attacks or piercing the armor of a Jaeger. Its tails have enough power to rapidly spin and lash out, even with a heavy amount of underwater pressure working against them.

Slattern has a spike-like protrusion on its chest, which can extend forward and inflict blunt damage on a Jaeger. The sound of the Kaiju's roar can emit sound waves powerful enough to cause visible damage to its surrounding environment.[3] Slattern's body is also extremely resilient against a multitude of attacks, nuclear or otherwise. Slattern's height is estimated at 596 feet and its weight is estimated at 6,750 tons, its size striking fear into its foes.

Slattern's facial structure is symmetrical, similar to that of a hammerhead shark, and contains two blue eyes on each side. The Kaiju's chin is slanted and much like Scunner, Trespasser, and Knifehead, its arms are actually fused and end in three-digit claws.[3]

History

When the Precursors learn of Operation Pitfall, humanity's plan to destroy the Breach, through Newton Geiszler's Drifts, they send Slattern and two Category IV Kaiju, Raiju and Scunner, through the portal to protect it.

Slattern emerges from the Breach just after Gipsy Danger and Striker Eureka arrive to destroy it. The Kaiju attacks Striker Eureka with its numerous tails, sending the Jaeger crashing into a hydrothermal vent and disabling its Anti-Kaiju Missile Launcher. Meanwhile, Raiju and Scunner cripple Gipsy Danger, preventing it from assisting its fellow Jaeger.

Tailattack

Slattern attacks Striker Eureka with its tails.

As Striker Eureka recovers from Slattern's first attack, the Kaiju tackles the Jaeger and uses the surrounding environment to cause further damage. Despite being three times larger than Striker Eureka, Slattern is still met with considerable resistance; Striker Eureka cuts Slattern's throat and nearly amputates both of the Kaiju's front arms with its Sting Blades before the beast finally backs off.

Realizing that it can't win alone, Slattern roars for help, leading Scunner to abandon its fight with Gipsy Danger and come to Slattern's aid. Once Scunner arrives, the two Kaiju charge Striker Eureka just as its pilots Chuck Hansen and Stacker Pentecost detonate the thermonuclear bomb strapped on the Jaeger's back. Although the explosion vaporizes Scunner, Slattern survives with severe wounds.

Slattern intercepts Gipsy Danger's attempt to enter the Breach with Raiju's remains. With no way around the Category V Kaiju, Gipsy Danger drops Raiju's carcass and tackles Slattern at full speed, sending them both careening over the edge towards the Breach.

As they fall towards the portal, Slattern uses its tails in an attempt to disable Gipsy Danger and stabs the Jaeger in the back, cutting off the oxygen supply to Mako Mori's drivesuit. Her partner Raleigh Becket retaliates by firing the Jaeger's nuclear turbine at point-blank range, easily burning through Slattern's internal organs and finally killing the Kaiju for good. Slattern's body is then used to bypass the Breach and enter the Anteverse, allowing Raleigh to destroy it by manually arming Gipsy Danger's nuclear reactor to self-destruct.
