Spinejackal is a Category IV Kaiju that attacked Melbourne on January 31, 2022.[1]
Biology
Spinejackal is a tall, thin, gray-skinned Kaiju with a blue bioluminescent glow emitted from its eyes and mouth. The Kaiju has long arms that end in sharp claws and jagged spines that run from its head to its long tail.
Its mouth is gigantic, with several rows of teeth, some of which grow outside the mouth itself, and three pairs of external mandibles that resemble those of an insect. It has dozens of eyes that are spread throughout its body, completely covering its head and being in unusual places such as its external mandibles, back, wrists and elbows.[2]
The distribution of its eyes gave it a three-hundred and sixty degree vision that, combined with the enormous amount of spines on its body, made approaching it a very difficult task.[2]
History
Melbourne Incident
Spinejackal emerges from the Breach and arrives in Melbourne, Australia, managing to make landfall and begin its attack on the city until being stopped by the pair of Australian Jaegers, the Mark-3 Vulcan Specter and the Mark-5 Striker Eureka.[1][2]
The Kaiju's panoramic vision proves a difficult obstacle to master, forcing the two Jaegers to work as a team, with Vulcan finally managing to force the monster back to shore and landing an elbow that stunned it, allowing Striker to throw the blades of a wind turbine and slice the Kaiju's head in half.[2]
Aftermath
In 2035, Hannibal Chau purchased a mummified Kaiju hand in Los Angeles, recognizing it as one of Spinejackal's hands.[3]
Trivia
- Despite attacking the Australian city of Melbourne, the Pacific Rim: Aftermath comic mistakenly shows Spinejackal next to the Sydney Opera House, possibly due to a production oversight.[2]
