Novelization

Sydney is the state capital of New South Wales and the most populous city in Australia. It is also the location of two major Kaiju attacks in 2014 and 2025.

History[]

2014[]

Main article: Kaiju Attack on Sydney

On September 2, 2014, the Kaiju Scissure emerged from the Breach and made landfall in Sydney. During the military's engagement with the Kaiju, Angela Hansen, the wife of Hercules Hansen and the mother of their son Chuck, was killed in the city's downtown district during the military's first failed attempt to kill Scissure with a nuclear missile.[1]

The lack of clarity regarding the direct cause of Angela's death led the Pan Pacific Defense Corps to fabricate a story where the Kaiju was responsible for her death. Although this story was reported to her husband by Stacker Pentecost, Herc was not completely convinced and remained uncertain of her fate. The devastation caused to the city by Scissure eventually lead Dr. Jasper Schoenfeld to develop the concept of a Jaeger.[1]

2017[]

Following the authorization of the Jaeger Program, the Pan Pacific Defense Corps constructed a Shatterdome in Sydney. Operations in the Shatterdome began in May 25, 2017 with the Jaegers Vulcan Specter and Striker Eureka.

2020[]

Following the United Nations' announcement in 2020[3], Sydney became one of several cities along the Pacific Rim to host a part of the Anti-Kaiju Wall, an effort put forth by the United Nations as an alternative to the Jaeger Program.[1]

2025[]

Following the closure of Sydney Shatterdome on December 29, 2024, the city of Sydney was caught off-guard by the emergence of the Category IV Kaiju Mutavore. Although the Jaegers Echo Saber and Vulcan Specter were deployed in an attempt to kill the Kaiju, Mutavore easily overpowered both Jaegers and breached the Anti-Kaiju Wall.[1]

With no other options left, the Australian government immediately reactivated Striker Eureka with orders to kill the Kaiju before it could do any more damage to the city. Mutavore was summarily defeated by the swift actions of Striker Eureka's pilots Herc and Chuck Hansen, who were later relocated with their Jaeger to the Hong Kong Shatterdome to participate in Operation Pitfall.[1]
