Can anyone confirm from an official source that Mako was the SOLE survivor? It's kinda hard to believe that Onibaba killed every living human in Tokyo (~13 million) but her. I'm thinking "she was the only survivor Stacker happened to come across/rescue in the battle" would be more accurate.
The tie-in comic refers to Mako Mori as "the girl from that famous picture. Tokyo's Daughter. The Iconic Survivor" this seems to imply she was the only survivor of this Kaiju attack. JR Pictures (talk) 23:56, June 30, 2013 (UTC)
"The girl from that famous picture. Tokyo's Daughter. The Iconic Survivor"—That quote does not imply in any manner whatsoever that she was the only survivor; all it says is that she is the "iconic survivor" because she's the one there's a famous picture of. The "iconic soldiers" of the Battle of Okinawa in World War II are the ones in the picture raising the flag, but that doesn't mean they were the only soldiers there, right?
The scene in the movie with Mako fleeing into the alley actually shows that most of the area around Tokyo Station in the central area of Chiyoda was still standing when the creature was defeated, so presumably the destruction in Tokyo wasn't even all that bad, Mako's parents getting killed and perhaps a death toll somewhere in the thousands or at most tens of thousands notwithstanding. Actually thinking through the scenario that would be necessary both to have Mako as the sole survivor in Tokyo and to be consistent with the footage in the film would end up with a ridiculous result:
1) Creature arrives in Tokyo, avoids central area, attacks the outskirts of the city.
2) Literally everybody in central Tokyo, except Mako, flees to those outskirts, where the creature is attacking.
3) Creature destroys literally everything and everyone in outskirts, returns to relatively undamaged central Tokyo.
4) Creature lightly menaces sole survivor (Mako), who stayed behind in central Tokyo
5) Creature gets defeated, leaving central Tokyo only moderately damaged, the (un-shown) outskirts of Tokyo completely destroyed, and Mako as the sole survivor.
Yeah, that's totally plausible.
