  • I kept looking at the scenes and featurettes, but they never have Mega-Kaiju flinging energy projectiles from its or burrowing underground. Can anyone give suggestions or explanations for why this was so?

    • First off, it's not practical for the Mega-Kaiju to burrow. That would take a long time, and not benefit it at all. It would make it an easier target. Secondly, it used Shirikethorn's tails in combat. It didn't fire any projectiles, but did use one of Shrikethorn's abilities. You could argue it was using Hakuja's upper-body strength and mobility. Look at the Mega-Kaiju's arms, they look a lot like Hakuja's.

    • Okay, but using Shrikethorn’s tails doesn’t exactly mean it’s using its abilities, just a physical part of it.

And I can assume that the reason it never dug underground was due to the increased weight.

I'm sure that is considered using one of its abilities, because those barbed tails are specific to Shrikthorn, and are used to inflict damage in a way the other two Kaiju can't. Why does firing a projectile make it an ability, when penetrating with one of the thorns make it not an ability?

I'm sure the increased volume is the problem with burrowing, for the reasons I explained above.

There are varying factors to why and why not this is so that can be found in other sources related to other franchises.

Such as Mystique from the X-Men; she could copy other mutants, but not often always their abilities, such as wings or claws or energy projection.

Mega-Kaiju didn't fling projections from its tails, even though they were Shrikethorn's tails to begin with, and said Kaiju could.

My base on this thread is the blu-ray feature called Going Mega, which talks about the four Kaiju seen in Uprising.

You justification as to why striking with the tail's thorns instead of firing them is not an ability isn't correct. Unlike your X-Men comparison, this isn't a copy.

Regardless of whether it's an ability or not, it probablt wasn't used because it wouldn't have been as effective. The three Kaiju went from losing the battle, to destroying the Jaegers when combined. It must have thought that using its tail as a stabbing weapon, and other offensive moves such as biting and the shockwave punch, were more effective. Knowing its own abilities better than anyone else, it was right to do those. Firing projectiles may have been a good choice at range on one Jaeger, but not when you have 3/4 of them attacking you nearby all at once.

    • True. I'll accept that.

    • The Mega-Kaiju was never in a situation where it needed a ranged attack, so it would naturally never employ one. I'm also doubtful that it had the ability to burrow, given that such an ability is inevitably dependent on the way the entire body is constructed; not merely part of it.

      Possible.

    • When MK stabbed Saber Athena, the tails were glowing blue like plasma, and I take this as a combined usage of Shrikethorn's plasma thorns and Hatjuja's "bayonet-like" tail attack written on Chinese official card.

Yeah, I just realized the barbs on the tails glowed before striking Saber after watching the film this morning. Thank you.

    • No problem!

And since MK performed the energy wave for two times, it is quite possible that MK or Raijin can either emit the energy flows spontaneously or save and change the amount of energy for each attacks including creating and saving kinetic energy by himself.

I wonder if he can emit the attack from any part of his body, and also wonder what will happen if he emits it into buildings, air, water, etc, or even strengthening his roar?!(roar attack was noted to be a special attack in Chinese card)

Same for Leatherback's EMP blast. According to official data including Chinese cards, they both can create electricity (or plasma for Raijin). Technically, it sounds feasible that they can change the mean of energy attacks.

    • Probably only where the Rajin parts are located.
